Here's What's Happening
in
3MAT

Picture

May is here, which means the school year is quickly drawing to a close. With that brings lots of fun and exciting events. But before we can hit the cruise control there is plenty to be done! First, next week starts the NJASK testing for grade three. 3Mat has been working diligently to prepare for the test. During the week of testing the students will not have a snack break so it’s very important that your child eats a full breakfast each morning before school. The month ends with an extended break due to unused snow days. Enjoy the long weekend to celebrate Memorial Day!

After testing in language arts, we will finish up our reading series with unit 6. Unit 6 explores the meaning of freedom through the stories of Two Bad Ants and The Story of the Statue of Liberty. The theme of freedom is also being explored in social studies. As we’ve just wrapped up how our nation declared its independence, we will now be exploring how the country became what it is today. In math, we are finishing up geometry and probability. In science, we will be exploring the life cycles of a butterfly.

Enjoy the lovely spring weather, the beautiful flowers and the much deserved extended break.

                                        Sincerely,

                                        Mrs. Matvienko

Making the impossible POSSIBLE

Picture

“There is no use trying, said Alice; one can’t believe impossible things.”“I dare say you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”- Lewis Carroll

           Did You Know?

*Small animals that hibernate are usually coming out of their burrows in spring. The birds fly back northward or they settle down to have their families. The bees and butterflies begin to gather nectar from the first flowers of the season.
*In some parts of the world, it's planting time. In other parts, it's the harvest season. Professional baseball begins in April. Spring cleaning starts and people start mowing their yards again.
*Special days celebrated in April begin with the first day of April, when children and grown-ups play jokes on one another, April Fool's Day. Arbor Day is a day for planting trees, and it is observed on various April days.
*Also this time of year, a certain bunny comes hopping through town hiding some colorful eggs to find.

    Star Student
     of the Week

Picture
Welcome to our Star Student of the Week section! During the school year, each student will have the opportunity to be the Star Student for an entire week.  Being a Star Student is more than just a fancy title for a week.  Our Star Student is given special privileges and opportunities to celebrate how special he or she truly is.  Here is just a sample of some of the special privileges; line leader for the week; time at the Rewards Center; Star Student of the Week certificate, bracelet, and pencil; and "All About Me" information displayed on the Start Student Bulletin Board for the week plus many more. Come back each week to see who will be the next Start Student.  Remember, every child can be a star!
